How to Achieve Preppy Style While on a Budget

This past month I have fallen back in love with the preppy style, so I am working to build up more preppy basics in my closet while on a budget. Typically people think that achieving preppy style costs a lot, but it doesn’t have to. I wanted to share some of my tips and tricks for how I have built up my preppy wardrobe and if you have any tips of your own be sure to share them with me in the comments!

First off this tip is by far the most common but always works, and it is waiting for big sales. Most preppy brands have yearly or semi yearly sales, so keep your eye out and be prepared to get on the site fifteen minutes before the sale starts and have a credit card ready.  The Lilly after party sale is probably one of the more well known sales and has crazy deals on previous season Lilly. Many other brands have sales just like this one and the easiest way to find out is to get on a mailing list or check the websites regularly.

Also very well known, but still very useful are outlet stores and websites. Most of the time outlet stores are either a hit or a big miss for me and you have to be willing to put in the effort to look. I personally like shopping online a little better, so outlet pages on brands website are a must for me! Brands that I shop at that have outlet pages are Ralph Lauren and J. Crew, but I am sure many more have outlet pages!

One of the newest ways that I have been finding preppy clothes is by using the app Poshmark. Poshmark is an app that allows you to sell your gently used and new clothes. I have sold some clothing items on here and it is so simple to sell and buy. Poshmark is great when you are looking for something specific and know exactly what size you are. For example I have been obsessed with J Crew skirts so I will search for that in my size.  Sometimes you might find a good deal, other times you have to make an offer with the seller to actually get a deal. I recently purchased two J Crew skirts that are in amazing condition for about ten dollars each. Each of these skirts were around sixty to eighty dollars new so that is an amazing deal at over 70% off.  If you have some items in your closet that you aren’t really loving anymore you can post them on here too and maybe even trade with someone else for something new to add to your wardrobe!
